The raffia used by our production partners is harvested from the leaves of the Gebang palm, which thrives in the tropical, swampy regions of Indonesia. The fan-shaped leaves are carefully collected without causing any damage and then cut into fine fibers. These fibers are gently sun-dried to enhance their natural strength and are either woven directly into baskets or twisted into cords, which are also used in various handmade home accessories such as placemats. Raffia not only represents sustainable and stylish home decor, but also preserves centuries-old craftsmanship and promotes the responsible use of natural resources.

When selecting our local production partners, we emphasize fair pay, safe working conditions, and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small family businesses with a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. They are all experienced craftspeople of legal age. Older people, in particular, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in the craft sector, allowing them to use the skills they learned from a young age to earn money and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are to create something meaningful and earn a good income through this work. Because all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process produces minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We guarantee this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the businesses.
